PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which allows a device to charge based on usage even when the device is not connected to the network.SOLUTION: A management server 2 of a rental source creates a use permission code including machine information of an image forming device 1 which is for rental, and number information corresponding to an advance payment amount. A user purchases the created use permission code, and registers the code in the image forming device 1 so that, the device can be used by the user. The image forming device 1 determines the use permission code as valid, when the machine information included in the use permission code and machine information of its own device match. During registration, the number information included in the valid use permission code is stored in a storage part of the device, as a use possible number, and when printing is finished, the number of printing is subtracted from the stored use possible number. When the use possible number becomes 0, the device becomes a use impossible state. The use permission code is encoded, and duplication use of the code which has been used is checked. 【課題】ネットワークに接続されていない装置でも、装置ごとに従量課金が可能なシステムを提供する。【解決手段】レンタル元の管理サーバ２は、レンタルする画像形成装置１の機械情報と前払い金額に相当する枚数情報を含む使用許可コードを生成する。ユーザは、生成された使用許可コードを購入し、そのコードを画像形成装置１に登録することで装置が使用可能となる。画像形成装置１は、使用許可コードに含まれる機械情報と自装置の機械情報とが一致した場合に、使用許可コードを有効と判定する。登録時には、有効な使用許可コードに含まれた枚数情報を使用可能枚数として装置の記憶部に格納し、印刷終了ごとに記憶された使用可能枚数から印刷した枚数を減算する。使用可能枚数がゼロになったときは、装置を使用不可状態にする。使用許可コードは暗号化され、使用済のコードの重複使用がチェックされる。【選択図】図１
