PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple, inexpensive, reliable, and disposable lancet device for use in collecting blood samples.SOLUTION: The lancet 70b is disposed within a housing 12b and is adapted for axial movement between an initial or pre-actuated position at which the puncturing element is retained within the housing 12b, and a puncturing position at which the puncturing element extends through a forward opening 60b in the housing 12b. The lancet device 10b includes a drive spring 92b disposed within the housing 12b for biasing the lancet 70b toward the puncturing position, and a retraction or return spring 94b for returning the lancet to a position within the housing 12b where the puncturing element is disposed within the housing 12b.
