Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark plug superior in durability by providing, on at least one of a center electrode and a grounding electrode, a tip superior in resistance against spark wearing in a high temperature environment.SOLUTION: A spark plug comprises: a center electrode; and a grounding electrode arranged so that a gap is provided between the center and grounding electrodes. In the spark plug, at least one of the center and grounding electrodes has a tip for forming the gap. The tip has: a metal base material including Ir as a primary component; and oxide particles including at least one of oxides expressed by the general formula, ABO(where A represents at least one element selected from Group II elements of the periodic table; and B represents at least one element selected from metal elements) and having a perovskite structure. When a section of the tip is observed, the percentage of the area that the oxide particles account for is 1-13%. 【課題】 この発明は、高温環境下における耐火花消耗性に優れたチップを中心電極及び接地電極の少なくとも一方に備えることにより、耐久性に優れたスパークプラグを提供することを課題とする。【解決手段】 中心電極と、前記中心電極との間に間隙を設けて配置された接地電極と、を備えるスパークプラグであって、前記中心電極と前記接地電極との少なくとも一方は前記間隙を形成するチップを有し、前記チップは、Irを主成分とする金属母材と、一般式ABO3で示されるペロブスカイト構造を有する酸化物(Aは周期表の第2族元素から選択される少なくとも1種、Bは金属元素から選択される少なくとも1種)の少なくとも1種を含有する酸化物粒と、を有し、前記チップの断面を観察したとき、前記酸化物粒の占める面積の割合が、1%以上13%以下であることを特徴とするスパークプラグ。【選択図】 図1
