Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi feeding device in which multi feeding detection capability is improved by performing multi feeding determination of sheets by using variation in signal strength of ultrasonic signals having passed through the sheets.SOLUTION: A multi feeding detection device comprises: a transmission element 6 which transmits ultrasonic signals to sheets; and a reception element 7 which receives the ultrasonic signals having passed through the sheets. Also, the multi feeding detection device comprises a CPU 1 which performs such control that the transmission means transmits the ultrasonic signals and the reception element 7 receives the ultrasonic signals having passed through the sheets. The CPU 1 calculates an index indicating variation from the aggregation of signal strength of the ultrasonic signals received at a plurality of positions, and determines that the sheets are fed in multiplicity when the index is larger than a prescribed set value (threshold). 【課題】シートを透過した超音波信号の信号強度のばらつきを用いてシートの重送判定を行うことにより重送検知能力を向上させた重送検知装置を提供する。【解決手段】重送検知装置は、シートに向け超音波信号を発信する発信素子6、シートを透過した超音波信号を受信する受信素子7を有する。また、重送検知装置は、搬送されるシートの複数の箇所において、発信手段が超音波信号を発信するとともに受信素子7がシートを透過した超音波信号を受信するよう制御するCPU1を有する。CPU1は、複数の箇所において受信した超音波信号の信号強度の集合からばらつきを表す指標を算出し、この指標が所定の設定値(閾値)より大きい場合にシートが重送されていると判定する。【選択図】図4
