Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device the display quality of which can be improved.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate, a second substrate and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate comprises: a first insulating substrate; a switching element placed on the first insulating substrate; a first interlayer insulation film covering the switching element; a first reflective common electrode extending on the first interlayer insulation film; a second interlayer insulation film covering the first common electrode; a transmissive pixel electrode facing the first common electrode at least partially on the second interlayer insulation film and electrically connected to the switching element; and a first vertical alignment layer covering the pixel electrode. The second substrate comprises: a second insulating substrate; a second common electrode extending at the side facing the first substrate, of the second insulating substrate and having the same potential as that of the first common electrode; and a second vertical alignment layer covering the second common electrode.
