Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a punching mechanism capable of reducing power consumption while making it possible to ensure discharging punch waste from a discharge passage.SOLUTION: A punching mechanism 5 includes: a punch blade 8 punching part of a card medium 2 to form a hole in the card medium 2; a punch drive source 9 driving the punch blade 8 to operate linearly; a discharge passage 11 for discharging punch waste 2a generated as a result of punching the card medium 2 by the punch blade 8; and an air-current generation mechanism 13 generating an air current in a direction of discharging the punch waste 2a from the discharge passage 11, within the discharge passage 11. The punch blade 8 extrudes the punch waste 2a to the discharge passage 11 at a time of punching the card medium 2, and the air-current generation mechanism 13 operates by power of the punch drive source 9 generated when the punch blade 8 forms the hole in the card medium 2 and generates the air current within the discharge passage 11.
