Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine that enables improvement of responsiveness of supercharger during low-speed rotation of the supercharger and engine fuel economy FC during high-speed rotation of the supercharger.SOLUTION: In an engine 1 including a supercharger 3, three or more exhaust manifolds 8-11 are connected to the supercharger 3, respectively. Each of the exhaust manifolds 8-11 is connected by a connecting pipe 12, and on-off valves 12b, 12d, 12f for making the respective exhaust manifolds 8-11 independent are arranged in the connecting pipes 12, respectively. With respect to each speed N of the engine 1, a first reference value La and a second reference value Lb of a load factor L(n) of the engine 1 are set. When the load factor L(n) is less than the first reference value La, all of the on-off valves are closed. When the load factor L(n) is equal to or more than the first reference value La and is less than the second reference value Lb, part of the on-off valves is opened. When the load factor L(n) is equal to or more than the second reference value Lb, all of the on-off valves are opened.
