Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can suppress wear of a photoreceptor and expand the life of the apparatus, and can be used in a high-speed system with high productivity.SOLUTION: A process cartridge includes a photoreceptor 10, which is uniformly charged by a charging roller 41. An image forming apparatus includes a first charging condition of applying only a DC voltage to the charging roller and a second charging condition of applying a voltage including at least an AC component, and control means not illustrated operates in the second charging condition during the cleaning of the charging roller 14. A period of cleaning the charging roller 14 is from the completion of actual image formation to the stoppage of the operation of the apparatus, and a voltage is applied under the second charging condition during the period. 【課題】感光体摩耗を抑制可能で長寿命化が可能であり、生産性の高い高速システムにも対応可能な画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】プロセスカートリッジにおける感光体10は帯電ローラ41により一様に帯電される。帯電ローラへ直流電圧のみを印加する第1の帯電条件と、少なくとも交流成分を含む電圧を印加する第2の帯電条件とを有し、図示しない制御手段は、帯電ローラ14の清掃時には第2の帯電条件とする。帯電ローラ14の清掃時は、実際の画像形成終了から装置の動作停止までの間であり、この間に第2の帯電条件で電圧が印加される。【選択図】図2
