PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a masking member which can mask the outer peripheral surface of an opening while preventing adhesion of a coating to the inner surface of a bottomed cylindrical cylinder and a method of producing a cylinder using it.SOLUTION: The masking member includes an outer cylindrical part 12 one axial-direction side of which serves as a covering part 21 covering an outer peripheral surface 33A of an opening 33 of a cylinder 30, a protrusion part 13 which protrudes from an axial-direction middle position of the outer cylindrical part 12 toward the radial-direction inner side and comes in contact with an end surface 33C of the opening 33 of the cylinder 30, a bottom part 14 which extends from the axial-direction middle position of the outer cylindrical part 12 on the side opposite to the covering part 21 in the axial direction relative to the protrusion part 13 and to the radial-direction inner side relative to the protrusion part 13, and an inner cylindrical part 15 which extends from the radial-direction inner side of the bottom part 14 in the axial direction. 【課題】有底筒状のシリンダの内面への塗料付着を防止しつつ開口部の外周面をマスキングすることができるマスキング部材およびこれを用いたシリンダの製造方法の提供。【解決手段】軸方向一側がシリンダ３０の開口部３３の外周面３３Ａを覆う被覆部２１とされた外筒部１２と、外筒部１２の軸方向中間位置から径方向内側に突出してシリンダ３０の開口部３３の端面３３Ｃに当接する突出部１３と、外筒部１２の軸方向中間位置から突出部１３に対し軸方向の被覆部２１とは反対側にて突出部１３よりも径方向内側に延出する底部１４と、底部１４の径方向内側から軸方向に延出する内筒部１５とを有する。【選択図】図３
