Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall, which can improve high mileage property, flex-crack resistance and steering stability in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire having a sidewall manufactured by using the composition.SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a sidewall comprises a rubber component and silica, in which a modified diene polymer rubber described below is included by 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber component, and the silica is included by 5 to 150 pts.mass with respect to 100 pts.mass of the rubber component. The modified diene polymer rubber is produced by allowing triglycidyl isocyanurate to react with an active conjugate diene polymer having an alkali metal terminal obtained by polymerizing a conjugate diene monomer or polymerizing a conjugate diene monomer and an aromatic vinyl monomer in the presence of a Lewis basic compound in a hydrocarbon solvent using an alkali metal catalyst.
