Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall, which can improve high mileage property, flex-crack resistance and steering stability in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire having a sidewall manufactured by using the composition.SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a sidewall comprises a rubber component and silica, in which a modified diene polymer rubber described below is included by 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber component, and the silica is included by 5 to 150 pts.mass with respect to 100 pts.mass of the rubber component. The modified diene polymer rubber is produced by allowing triglycidyl isocyanurate to react with an active conjugate diene polymer having an alkali metal terminal obtained by polymerizing a conjugate diene monomer or polymerizing a conjugate diene monomer and an aromatic vinyl monomer in the presence of a Lewis basic compound in a hydrocarbon solvent using an alkali metal catalyst. 【課題】低燃費性、耐屈曲亀裂性及び操縦安定性をバランス良く改善できるサイドウォール用ゴム組成物、及びそれを用いて作製したサイドウォールを有する空気入りタイヤを提供する。【解決手段】ゴム成分及びシリカを含有し、前記ゴム成分100質量%中、炭化水素溶媒中において、ルイス塩基性化合物と共存下で、共役ジエンモノマー又は共役ジエンモノマーと芳香族ビニルモノマーとをアルカリ金属系触媒を用いて重合させることにより得られるアルカリ金属末端を有する活性共役ジエン系重合体に対して、イソシアヌル酸トリグリシジルを反応させた変性ジエン系重合体ゴムの含有量が5質量%以上であり、前記ゴム成分100質量部に対する前記シリカの含有量が5〜150質量部であるサイドウォール用ゴム組成物に関する。【選択図】なし
