Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas circuit breaker exhibiting excellent capacitive current interruption capability without requiring enhancement of the opening speed.SOLUTION: Gas circuit breaker having a closed container filled with an arc-extinguishing gas and opening and closing the path by switching between current conduction and interruption includes a fixed arc contactor 11 and a movable arc contactor 21 arranged opposing to each other and for generating an arc in an arc space to be formed therebetween by separation during the breaking process, a pressure-storing space 26 provided on the movable arc contactor 21 side, storing the pressure of the arc-extinguishing gas, and generating a gas flow for extinguishing the arc, an insulation nozzle 23 arranged to surround the movable arc contactor 21, and introducing and blowing the gas flow to the arc, a gas passage interconnecting at least the arc space and the pressure-storing space 26, and formed in the internal space of the insulation nozzle 23, and a swirl flow generation mechanism for generating a spiral swirl flow from a gas flow passing through the gas passage.
