Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device which can capture fouling on a recess in a charging roller surface, and can keep the charging roller surface clean.SOLUTION: As a member for cleaning a charging roller 121, a brush roller 124 having brush fiber 125 with a small fiber diameter so as to enter a recess in a charging roller surface is used. The brush fiber 125 enters the recess in the surface of the charging roller 121, to capture and retain fouling, such as toner T. The surface of the charging roller 121 can be kept clean. Charging characteristics of the charging roller 121 can be maintained, to improve reliability of an image forming apparatus. 【課題】帯電ローラ表面の凹部の汚れを捕らえることができ、帯電ローラ表面を清浄な状態に維持することが可能な帯電装置を提供する。【解決手段】帯電ローラ121をクリーニングする部材として帯電ローラ表面の凹部に入り込める細い繊維径のブラシ繊維125を有するブラシローラ124を用いる。ブラシ繊維125が帯電ローラ121表面の凹部に入り込み、トナーT等の汚れを捕捉、保持できる。それにより帯電ローラ121表面を清浄な状態に維持することが可能となる。すると帯電ローラ121の帯電性能を維持でき、それによって画像形成装置を高信頼性化することができるようになる。【選択図】図4
