PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effect pigment having high chromatic purity when an incident angle and a view angle of light are constant, and to provide its manufacturing process.SOLUTION: There is provided an effect pigment containing an artificial base material with a fine sheet shape having at least one kind of a photoactive coating, having a volume average cumulative undersize distribution curve having specific values D, Dand Dand a span D calculated according to the formula (I) of 0.7 to 1.4, and an average thickness of 500 to 2000 nm. D=(D-D)/D(I). The average thickness of the artificial base material with the fine sheet shape is preferably 750 to 1500 nm and a standard deviation of the thickness is 15 to 100%.
