Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for promoting de-etiolation or greening of a plant that can efficiently stimulate the biosynthesis or the like of pigment compositions in a plant etiolated or in the process of being greened, and an apparatus for promoting de-etiolation or greening of a plant.SOLUTION: A method for promoting de-etiolation or greening of a plant includes applying a light component having at least one, as a main component, selected from light in the ultraviolet range, light in the visible range sandwiched between the B band and the Q band that are absorption wavelengths of chlorophyll, and light in the far-infrared range, as an artificial light source, to at least one plant selected from a plant, plant tissue, and a plant cell etiolated or in the process of being greened.
