Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine capable of improving fuel economy and reducing NOx in exhaust gas without excessively increasing manufacturing costs.SOLUTION: An extension cam 42 having a shape in which a surface 45a at the opposite side in a rotation direction of a nose part 41 bulges is attached to a camshaft 14 rotated in conjunction with a crankshaft 14, adjacently to a normal cam 32 operating an intake valve 10. When determining that an operation state of a diesel engine 1 is a steady operation state excluding warm-up operation and a load of the engine becomes 50% or less, an ECU 43 actuates an actuator 44 to slide a camshaft 31 in a longitudinal direction. Accordingly, the normal cam 32 is switched to the extension cam 42 to delay the timing at which the intake valve 10 closes an intake port 11. |
