Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for effectively suppressing postprandial glucose excursions while suppressing the incidence of clinically significant late postprandial hypoglycemia.SOLUTION: A composition is adapted for pulmonary administration in a patient with an insulin-related disorder, and used in combination with long-acting basal insulin for suppressing the postprandial glucose excursions. The method is provided for allowing serum insulin concentration of the patient to reach the peak within 15 minutes after administration, and to decrease to the half maximum value within 50 minutes after administration, and for suppressing the incidence of clinically significant late postprandial hypoglycemia. The insulin composition comprises a complex between a diketopiperazine and human insulin and is adjusted to be administered by inhalation as a dry powder. |
