Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct methanol fuel cell in which high output is achieved by increasing an amount of a catalyst and using methanol with high concentration.SOLUTION: A solid polymer electrolyte membrane is held with a pair of electrodes comprising a catalyst layer coated and/or impregnated on a porous support. The solid polymer electrolyte membrane is obtained by irradiating a resin membrane with a radioactive ray so that a radical polymerizable monomer is graft polymerized, the catalyst layer includes a catalyst particle and a solid polymer electrolyte, the catalyst particle is PtRu black or Pt black having a particle size of 10 nm or less, an amount of noble metal in the catalyst layer is 3-10 mg/cm, and the resin membrane is a fluorine-based resin membrane. In the radical polymerizable monomer, a polymerizable monomer (M1) having an alkoxy silyl group and a polymerizable monomer (M2) having no alkoxy silyl group are used together at M1:M2=5:95 to 50:50 (molar ratio). |
