Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance photocatalyst, which does not contain an environmentally harmful metal atom, which exhibits superior absorbency to light including an ultraviolet ray and also a visible light, and which has photocatalytic activity for broadband light, and to provide a method of manufacturing the photocatalyst.SOLUTION: The photocatalyst comprises a calcium titanium hydroxy apatite doped with at least either one of zinc and germanium. Preferably, a molar ratio (Ti:Zn+Ge) of titanium (Ti) to zinc and germanium (Zn+Ge) are 1:3 to 3:1.
