Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the battery output of a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: An electrode group including a positive electrode having a positive electrode mixture layer containing a lithium transition metal complex oxide, a negative electrode having a negative electrode mixture layer occluding/releasing lithium ions, and a separator arranged on the inner and outer peripheries of the positive electrode and negative electrode is housed in a battery container, and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium salt is injected. Output density of the lithium ion secondary battery can be enhanced by confining the value calculated by b×c/a within a predetermined range, where a is the area of the positive electrode mixture layer, b is the area of the separator, and c is the porosity of the separator.
