Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber, capable of preventing troubles or reducing troubles such as mixing of bubbles in a coating layer or formation of an uneven coating layer on forming a coating layer on a drawn optical fiber.SOLUTION: One embodiment of the method for producing an optical fiber includes a step of discharging a resin liquid from a resin supply hose 24 connected to a storage tank 23 to coating devices 4, 6 and applying the resin liquid on an optical fiber by the coating devices 4, 6 to form a coating layer. The method includes, prior to the step of forming the coating layer, steps of discharging the resin liquid from the supply hose 24 to a cup 22 separated from the coating devices and of measuring the discharged amount of the resin liquid (steps S31, S32) and a step of determining whether or not the measured discharged amount of the resin liquid is within a permissible range (step S33). When the measured discharged amount of the resin liquid is determined to be out of the permissible range as a determination result, the step of forming the coating layer is not carried out (step S35). |
