Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for intermittent data transmission for use in displaying television program guide information or other data.SOLUTION: Television program data is intermittently downloaded to a plurality of user terminals each having a data receiver (34), a memory (22) for storing the television program data, an on-screen electronic program guide generator (19), a microprocessor (24), and a television monitor (20) for displaying a television program and an electronic program guide. The data receiver is normally powered off and powered on at regular time intervals to receive the transmitted program data. The transmitted program data is stored in the memory (22).
