Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device that reduces consumption of an ink reception means receiving ink discharged during preliminary discharge.SOLUTION: In the ink jet recording device, when ink unrelated to recording is discharged for the preliminary discharge, discharge of the ink is controlled so that the ink is sequentially discharged from one of the discharge ports which is formed at one end to a discharge port formed at the other end. The ink jet recording device includes a web which can receive ink and relatively displace with respect to a face of a recording head with the discharge port formed thereon. When ink is discharged for the preliminary discharge, the direction for sequentially changing the discharge port discharging the ink is controlled to include a component of the same direction as the direction of the relative displacement with respect to the face of the web with the discharge port formed thereon. |
