Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the shapes of characters otherwise lost when image data is reduced, and to minimize a data quantity.SOLUTION: An MFP comprises: an image data acquisition unit (S01) for acquiring image data; a character area extraction unit (S03) for extracting from the acquired image data a character area in which characters are expressed: a vector section conversion unit (S05) for converting, to vector data, a specific line except for a line segment inclined within a predetermined zone in the extracted character area; a reduction unit (S08) for converting the image data to reduced image data having low resolution; and an output unit (S09) for outputting a set of the reduced image data and vector data.
