Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid-crystal display that realizes low power consumption and improves its display quality when displaying animations and still images.SOLUTION: A liquid-crystal display comprises: a display panel provided with multiple pixels having sub-pixels with color filters of red, green and blue and a sub-pixel for controlling white light penetration; a backlight part having light sources of red, green, blue and white; an image switching circuit for switching display on the display panel between an animation mode and a still image mode; and a display control circuit for controlling, in the animation mode, luminance of the red, green and blue light sources of the backlight part according to an image signal and controlling, in the still image mode, luminance of the white light source of the backlight part according to an image signal.
