Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot working high carbon steel for induction hardening parts excellent in an austenite grain coarsening preventing characteristic.SOLUTION: This hot working high carbon steel for induction hardening parts: has a chemical composition composed of 0.85-1.10% C, 0.1-1.2% Si, 0.3-1.5% Mn, ≤0.05% S, 0.1-1.0% Cr, 0.015-0.05% Al, 0.006-0.020% N and the balance Fe with impurities including ≤0.025% P, ≤0.003% Ti and ≤0.002% O, wherein ≤0.005% Al is precipitated as AlN, the number density of AlN having ≥100 nm diameter is ≤5 pieces/100 μm; and is composed of ferrite and pro-eutectoid cementite, wherein longest diameter of the pro-eutectoid cementite obtained by the extreme-statistical method is 60 μm or lower in 100 mm. Instead of a part of Fe, a specific amount of one or more elements among Ni, Mo, Nb, V can be contained.
