Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely lead vacuum pressure to a vertical drain material at the end of horizontal drain material and to uniformly discharge pore water.SOLUTION: A device for improving soft ground by vacuum consolidation is provided with a vertical drain material 3, a horizontal drain material 4, a pipe 5 connected with the vertical drain material 3 and the horizontal drain material 4, a catch basin 6 connected with a water collecting path of the pipe 5, a submerged pump 9 for discharging the collected pore water in the catch basin 6 to a drain tank 8 through a drain pipe 7, and a vacuum pump 10 for loading vacuum pressure to the pipe 5. The pipe 5 has a first pipe part 21 and a second pipe part 23 which communicates with the first pipe part 21 via a plurality of branch parts 22 and is disposed in a vertical downward direction of the first pipe part 21. The first pipe part 21 communicates with the horizontal drain material 4 and the second pipe part 23 communicates with the catch basin 6.
