Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium which exhibits superior color development sensitivity and permeability to light and superior printer traveling performance. SOLUTION: This thermal recording medium has a thermal recording layer which contains at least a colorless or a pale color basic leuco dye and an electron receptive developer, on a support with a total light permeability of not less than 70%. By adding kaolin with the average particle diameter of not more than 1 μm, to the thermal recording layer, the thermal recording medium obtains superior color sensitivity and permeability to light and superior printer traveling performance.
