Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance working efficiency by shortening a welding time, and to improve a welding quality by preventing occurrence of any non-welded part in a method and an apparatus for welding a T-joint. SOLUTION: The apparatus for welding a T-joint includes: a laser beam machining head 31 capable of applying laser beam LB and blowing shield gas for laser beam welding; an arc torch 32 capable of feeding a welding wire W and blowing shield gas for arc welding; a moving device 33 for relatively moving the laser beam machining head 31, the arc torch 32 and members 11, 12 to be welded along the welding direction; and a controller 34 for controlling the laser beam machining head 31, the arc torch 32 and the moving device 33. The controller 34 sets the laser beam output by the laser beam machining head 31 to 1-6 kW, and also sets a distance L from the first member 11 to be welded to the laser beam targeting position on the basis of a laser beam angle α and the thickness of the second member 12 to be welded.
