PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that suppresses deterioration in image quality of an image to be preview-displayed. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 102 executes thinning processing to image data so as to supply the image data after the thinning processing to an image display device 104 as image data for display. The image processing apparatus 102 has an area separation processing part 6 for executing area separation processing to the image data, and a spatial filter 15 for executing first image processing whose processing contents are switched according to the result of the area separation processing. The spatial filter 15 executes the first image processing to the image data when the display magnification is greater than or equal to a threshold. When the display magnification is less than the threshold, the spatial filter executes second image processing, unrelated to the result of the area separation processing, to the image data without executing the first image processing to the image data.
