Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance convenience in separate use between a whole body coil and a local coil. SOLUTION: An RF coil unit 6a includes a first transmission coil for receiving a high frequency signal to be supplied from a transmission part 7 and generating a first high frequency magnetic field for attaining superimposition at the fixed position of a magnetostatic field. An RF coil unit 6c includes a second transmission col for receiving a high freqcuency signal to be supplied from the transmission part 7 and generating a second high frequency magnetic field for attaining superimposition in the magnetostatic field, which has a smaller area compared with the first high frequency magnetic field. A main control part 1g determines whether the first or second transmission coil is valid. Under the control of the main control part 1g, the transmission part 7 supplies the first high frequency signal to the first transmission coil when the first transmission coil is determined to be valid, and supplies the second high frequency signal to the second transmission coil when the second transmission coil is determined to be valid.
