Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adapt a pressing mechanism not to induce a change in external magnetic field and allow the amount of magnetic material on a bill to be stably and accurately detected. SOLUTION: A pressing plate 33 and a load spring 34 constituting a pressing mechanism 32 for pressing the bill onto a magnetic sensor 31 for detecting the amount of magnetic material printed on the bill are constructed of non-magnetic material. The non-magnetic load spring 34 is used so as not to cause a change in external magnetic field, thereby allowing the magnetic sensor 31 to stably and highly accurately detect the amount of magnetic material on the bill and improve bill discriminating device's discrimination accuracy.
