Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asbestos detection device capable of automatically carrying out a shape measurement and a counting operation of a fibrous material containing asbestos fibers, and capable of obtaining precise observation results. SOLUTION: The asbestos detection device includes a microscope 14 for observing the fibrous material contained in a sample, a camera 16 for capturing the observed image by the microscope 14 and for output of image data, an image analyzing apparatus 18 for acquiring the image data and conducting a prescribed image processing, and a terminal device 20 for output of asbestos detection results. The image analyzing apparatus 18 includes an image acquisition means 22 for acquiring the image data through the camera 16 and an analysis means 26 for carrying out the shape measurement of each fibrous material appearing in the image data, and for determining whether the fibrous material is asbestos. The analysis means 26 includes a binarizing processing means 34 for applying a binarizing processing to the image data in which an object to be measured appears, based on a prescribed density threshold, and for converting them into a binary image consisting of an extraction region and its background region.
