Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength-swept light source that can sweep light of a narrow spectral line width and can be formed inexpensively. SOLUTION: The wavelength-swept light source comprises: a semiconductor optical amplifier 10; a ringed optical feedback system 11 for feeding back light emitted from one end face of the semiconductor optical amplifier 10 to the element from the other end face; a fiber Fabry-Perot etalon 14 for transmitting the light traveling in the ringed optical feedback system 11 by wavelength selection and continuously varying the selected wavelengths; and means 15 for taking out part of the light traveling in the ringed optical feedback system 11. The fiber Fabry-Perot etalon 14 is disposed apart from the lengthwise midpoint of the ringed optical feedback system 11. A current modulation means 17, 18 is further provided for setting a current applied to the semiconductor optical amplifier 10 to be less than an oscillation threshold at least in the period when light reflected by the fiber Fabry-Perot etalon 14 returns to the semiconductor optical amplifier 10, and setting the applied current to be equal to or more than the oscillation threshold in the other period.
