Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a storage system, a copy method and a primary storage device, allowing reduction of a load accompanying data transfer even when performing a remote copy in performing pair setting by applying a technology of a virtual volume to the storage system. SOLUTION: This storage system has: the primary storage device for storing data from a host device in a primary logical volume; and a secondary storage device connected to the primary storage device, providing a secondary logical volume storing a copy of the data. The storage system also has: a retrieval part for retrieving presence/absence of data in each primary slot area obtained by dividing a storage area of the primary logical volume into prescribed storage areas; a transmission part for transmitting a notification not stored with the data to the secondary storage device when not holding the data in the primary slot area; a writing part for writing zero data into a secondary slot area when receiving the notification from the primary storage device.
