Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for generating encrypted electronic contents from electronic contents. SOLUTION: Electronic contents contain a data portion and a format portion. An encryption scheme is selected by an encryption engine, system resources are identified, and parameters of system resources to be transformed by the encryption scheme are determined. A digital work is encrypted by the encryption engine, thereby generating encrypted electronic contents. The encrypted electronic contents contain an encrypted data portion and a format portion and by storing a structure of the digital work, the encrypted digital work can be interpreted by an interpretation application.
