PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a numerical control device having an alarm cause display function, which attains memory saving by reducing information related to alarm. SOLUTION: The numerical control device 10 which outputs a drive instruction 7 to an amplifier 3 for driving a motor 4 or the numerical control device 10 having the function of diagnosing operation states of peripheral devices 2, 3 and 4 includes a storage device 5 which stores an alarm message showing an abnormality of the operating states and information specifying the cause of the abnormality as additive information composed of Arabic numeral, alphabet or a combination of Arabic numeral and alphabet; and the alarm cause display function which selects, in the event of an abnormality in the numerical control device 10 or the peripheral devices 2, 3 and 4, the alarm message and additive information corresponding to the abnormality from a memory 5 to form a message, and requests a display device 2 to display the formed message.
