Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fully bladed closure design for a turbine wheel with a round skirt dovetail tolerant to centrifugal load and high temperature. SOLUTION: A design of the fully bladed closure 605 for the turbine wheel 600 with tangential entry is composed. A set of final three buckets including a bladed closure bucket 635 are disposed about a wheel margin 619 with two buckets adjacent to the bladed closure bucket 635 secured to the wheel margin 619 by the dovetails 615. The closure bucket 635 is secured to adjacent buckets 645 by a combination of one or more retaining keys 650 and to the margin 619 by one or more retaining pins 660. The bladed closure bucket 635 and the adjoining faces of the adjacent buckets 645 have flat skirts 640 providing support from the retaining keys 550 across the full axial width of the bladed closure bucket 635 and the adjacent buckets 645.
