Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and manufacturing method thereof which can deposit a counter electrode film of uniform film thickness at a low cost by highly accurate patterning in the liquid crystal display device of a form wherein a counter electrode composed of a transparent conductive film formed in each pixel is formed on a main surface of an insulating substrate and a comb-shaped pixel electrode is formed on the counter electrode through an insulating layer. SOLUTION: After closely and uniformly applying conductive ink to a display area where many pixel areas are arranged like a matrix on a main surface of an insulating substrate 1 by using an ink jet (IJ) method and curing the ink, patterning is performed by photolithography using resist. In the manufacturing method, a highly accurate counter electrode having uniform film thickness in a pixel can be formed at a low cost as compared with sputtering using a vacuum apparatus and the liquid crystal display device can be manufactured at a low cost.
