Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new tatami mat laying method for facilitating laying and maintenance of a tatami mat. SOLUTION: The tatami mat laying method is implemented by using block tatami mats which each have an external dimension obtained by dividing the tatami mat having a conventional standard dimension and consisting of a tatami surface and a tatami mat substrate, so as to have a predetermined shape in plan view. Then according to the method, the block tatami mats are combined with each other, and then laid in a room. Alternatively the tatami mat laying method is implemented by using block tatami mat substrates each having an external dimension molded into a predetermined shape in plan, and block tatami surfaces each molded into the predetermined shape in plan. Then according to the method, the block tatami substrates are combined with each other, laid in a room, and thereafter covered with the block tatami surfaces, respectively.
