Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate possibility of contamination ingress in an image reading apparatus which can independently open and close a lid member, and an image forming apparatus with it. SOLUTION: A press roller housing 50 supports a pair of torsion coil springs 51 which force a rotation axis 43a of a first press roller 43 and the first press roller 43 in a direction of a feed roller 42. It is not necessary to prepare a supporting unit for supporting the rotary axis 43a of the first press roller 43, etc. in a cover member 22, and the cover member 22 can be formed by a simple metal die. By the method, it is possible to remove opening which penetrates inside and outside of the cover member 22 in an assembling part of an original carrying mechanism 26 in the cover member 22, and possibility of the contamination ingress to the inside of the cover member 22 can be eliminated.
