Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead storage battery excellent in safety in which the inflammation of generated oxygen/hydrogen gases and the damage of an electrolytic bath/a lid due to the inflammation are suppressed. SOLUTION: An electrode group and together a porous member 8 are arranged in a cell chamber of the lead storage battery. The porous member has a number of small chambers 9 aggregated, and gaps 10 between the adjacent small chambers and between the small chambers and the cell chamber. The small chambers each has a volume of 20 to 40 cm3and the gap is 0.2 to 0.8 mm, preferably 0.2 to 0.5 mm, thereby suppressing the inflammation of oxygen/hydrogen gases staying in the cell chamber and the damage of the electrolytic bath and the lid due to the inflammation.
