Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine sufficiently suppressing generation of smoke. SOLUTION: This cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve 1 injecting fuel from the upper part of an engine cylinder toward the top surface of a piston. Penetration force of injected fuel is switched between at least two levels during a fuel injection period by the fuel injection valve such that when the position of the piston is high, the penetration force of the fuel F injected by the fuel injection valve becomes weaker in comparison with a case where the position of the piston is low.
