Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PTC element which can prevent a coating material for forming a protective film of the exposed surface of the PTC element from leaking to a part where the coating material must not be held. SOLUTION: The PTC element comprises an element body 4 having a resistance increasing as a temperature rises in a predetermined temperature region, a pair of first electrode plate 10 and second electrode plate 12 bonded to front and back sides of the element body 4, and a protective film 3 covering the exposed portion of the element body 4 not covered with the first electrode plate 10 and second electrode plate 12. The first electrode plate 10 has an element bonding surface 100 where the first electrode plate and the element body come into direct contact, and an element nonbonding surface 101 where the first electrode plate 10 and the element body 4 are not bonded on the extension surface of the element bonding surface 100. The element nonbonding surfaces 101 are formed oppositely to each other while sandwiching the element body 4 and a surface 102 for receiving the protective film is formed on the element nonbonding surface 101.
