Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of improving light emission efficiency by suppressing or ameliorating the disadvantages of 2L (line) unevenness and the required minimum sustaining voltage (Vsmin) aggravation in the case where sustain operation is performed by intermingling different waveforms in a PDP device of an ALIS system. SOLUTION: In the sustain operation of the PDP device of the ALIS system, a combination (C1) intermingled with a fundamental waveform (A) and a waveform (B) for separating a discharge peak in a sustain pulse is applied. C1 is configured to make the probability that the waveform (B) continues sufficiently as small as <20% and to make the number of times of the sustain discharge of various kinds of the intensity the same among the driving object lines.
