Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid droplet ejector which can prevent an increase in liquid consumption during a suction recovery operation and the upsizing of a suction pump and the occurrence of color mixture while reducing manufacturing costs. SOLUTION: This liquid droplet ejector comprises: a liquid droplet ejection head which is erected across the carrying direction of a recording medium P; a suction cap 52, which can cover a nozzle surface of the liquid droplet ejection head, and which is connected to the suction means 48; a protective cap 54 which can cover the nozzle surface of the liquid droplet ejection head, and which is not connected to the suction means 48; and a movement mechanism which moves the protective cap 54, unconnected to the suction means 48, the cap 52 and the protective cap 54 in the direction of the erection of the liquid droplet ejection head.
