Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of correcting a toner adhesion quantity while retaining satisfactory print quality without stopping printing even during consecutive printing. SOLUTION: At the start of printing, correction toner images are formed outside and inside the maximum paper area on an intermediate transfer body 5, which is perpendicular to the direction of conveyance. A toner adhesion quantity detection means detects toner adhesion quantities and calculates a toner image density rate. When continuous printing takes place, a correction toner image is printed outside the maximum print area on the intermediate transfer body 5, the toner adhesion quantity is detected by an image detection means that detects the toner adhesion quantity. The toner adhesion quantity inside the maximum paper area is calculated from this result and the density rate in the toner adhesion quantity.
