Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member holding device for suppressing the quake of a member due to earthquake in a connection position between the member attached to a structure and the structure, while eliminating the directivity of a function and absorbing the vibration energy of outer force in all directions. SOLUTION: The member holding device 1 comprises: an inside member 3 arranged outside the member 2 attached to the structure integrally with the member 2; an outside member 4 arranged outside the inside member 3 integrally with the structure; and an energy absorbing member 5 installed directly or indirectly between the structure and the member 2 in an elastoplastically deformable manner. The energy absorbing member 5 is formed in a polygonal shape in view from a direction perpendicular to the direction of opposing the inside member 3 to the outside member 4.
