Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate character recognition convenient for a user by determining a character type corresponding to handwriting. SOLUTION: The character recognition device comprises an acquisition means 10 acquiring a written handwriting and a storage means 103 storing a plurality of character types, a plurality of writing styles for each character type, and frequency information showing frequencies of writing in the writing styles. The device further comprises a detection means 102 detecting, based on the handwriting, the writing style of the handwriting and the character type of the handwriting; a selection means 102 selecting a frequency corresponding to the detected writing style and the detected character type; and a character type determination means 102 determining, based on the selected frequency and the handwriting, a character type corresponding to the handwriting.
