Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that filter coefficients of a number of head transport functions are conventionally required for arbitrary position localization of sound sources, computational complexity or circuit scale in proportion to the number of sound sources to be localized is required, continuous switching of the head transport functions is required for sound image move of the sound sources, and smooth movement can not be presented if the filter coefficients of the head transport functions can not be prepared sufficiently. SOLUTION: A sound image localization apparatus is provided which comprises a multi-channel signal generation section which generates a channel signal corresponding to a plurality of virtual speakers from a signal of an input sound source and a virtual sound field generation section which inputs the generated channel signal corresponding to the plurality of virtual speakers and performs localization processing by imparting characteristics corresponding to the channel signal, respectively to generate signals as many as the number of reproduction units for localizing a reproduction sound source virtually at an arbitrary position, thereby presenting the smooth movement of the sound source with memory saving/low computational complexity.
