Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent problems such as poor contact between contacts of a movable terminal and a fixed terminal due to frosting inside an electromagnetic relay case without causing problems such as enlargement of a system, an increase in cost, and an increase in energy loss which might be caused in preventing the relay from frosting. SOLUTION: A control unit 20 determines whether the inside of the case 15 of the electromagnetic relay 10 is frosted, and repeatedly applies and stops voltage to an excitation coil 11 of the relay 10 when the frosting is determined to take place. The movable unit 15 is repeatedly moved in the direction of coming closer to/farther away from the fixed terminal 16, thereby causing vibration in the case 15 or at a spot where the frosting occurs inside the case 15 to defrost.
